Mike sat down with the Online Degrees
staff to answer a couple of quick questions
that our readers wanted answers to.

answers that he gave in his brief
question and answer session.
“At the end of the day,
I just want to support students and help
them learn.”
Michael Lamendola, Director of Digital
Education for
Emantras, Inc. and an informal
advocate for students, didn’t always enjoy
school. In fact, he confesses, “I was that
kid in the back of the class.” Yet, after
some inspirational words from a college
professor and perseverance, Mike finished
college and has dedicated his professional
life to helping students realize their
potential through flexible class options and
specifically, interactive online education.
Mike was born and raised in Montvale, New
Jersey and graduated from Richard Stockton
College (Pomona, NJ) with a Bachelors degree
in Communications and a Minor in Women’s
Studies. Lincoln Educational Services hired
Mike as a Corporate Communications
Specialist shortly after he graduated from
college. When Lincoln decided to offer
online classes and needed fresh content for
its platforms, Mike jumped in to fill the
gap. Almost overnight, he transitioned from
a communications specialist to an expert in
online education with growing
responsibilities. He was named the Director
of Online Education in 2005 and handled
everything from writing web copy and
policies to hiring faculty to teach online
classes and authoring student and faculty
orientations. Remembering his own college
experience, he turned his attention to
student retention and ensured that students
had access to trained counselors that would
support their educational endeavors.
In 2007, Mike became the Director of Digital
Education at Emantras, Inc., a digital
education media company, where his focus
became developing engaging, learner-centric
online classes. Applying feedback from
student satisfaction surveys, Mike has made
it his goal to utilize multimedia
capabilities to the fullest in order to
capture the attention of students of all
learning types—particularly those students
who struggle to maintain interest. “At the
end of the day,” Mike says, “students are
being affected by what I do, and if this
translates to another student graduating
from college, then my job is worthwhile.”
When Mike is not empowering students through
digital education, he can be found playing
his guitar and creating comics. He currently
lives with his wife, Elizabeth, in Midland
Park, New Jersey.
